Higgins: 100% Federal Cost-Share Authorized for Hurricane Laura Public Assistance

October 30, 2020
Press Release

LAKE CHARLES, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that President Trump approved the Louisiana delegation’s request for a 100% federal cost-share for FEMA Public Assistance programs in response to Hurricane Laura.

The adjustment will apply to debris removal and emergency protective measures (Categories A & B), including direct federal assistance, under the Public Assistance program for a continuous period of 30 days established by the State.

Congressman Higgins requested a federal cost-share adjustment in a letter to President Trump on September 8. Read that letter here. The entire Louisiana delegation sent a subsequent letter to President Trump on October 9. Read that letter here.

Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:

“I’m grateful that President Trump granted our request and authorized FEMA to cover 100% of the Public Assistance costs in response to Hurricane Laura. State and local government resources have been stretched to the limit. This change provides much-needed support and enables our cities and parishes to fully participate in FEMA’s disaster recovery programs.”
