WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that U.S. Army Corps of Engineers waterway projects in South Louisiana will receive funding through the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA) and a supplemental disaster relief bill.
The supplemental disaster relief bill, which Congressman Higgins supported, includes the following projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District:
- $162 million for the Atchafalaya Basin.
The IIJA includes the following projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District:
- $125 million for the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Project;
- $33 million for the Atchafalaya River – Bayous Chene, Boeuf, and Black Project;
- $12 million for the Mermentau River;
- $23 million for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“While I opposed the Infrastructure bill in its totality based on unwavering principle, there are certain elements within the bill that my office fully supports. That includes Army Corps funding for dredging, waterway maintenance, and storm mitigation efforts in South Louisiana. Since coming to Congress, my office has prioritized funding for Louisiana’s ports and waterways. We’ve now worked with our partners at the Army Corps to secure nearly $1 billion for these efforts. We will continue to fight for investments in real infrastructure while remaining committed to our core principles.”
