Investments in water management and flood mitigation make our communities more resilient and produce long-term cost savings. My office will continue working with our local, state, and federal partners to prioritize investments and legislative solutions that improve flood control infrastructure in South Louisiana. LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) delivered a letter today to President Joe Biden, urging the approval of Louisiana’s request for a major disaster declaration in response to recent severe weather and flooding. Congressman Higgins also again asked President Biden to issue a request to Congress for supplemental disaster assistance in response to last year’s hurricanes.

The announcement of federal funding for this project follows the Lafayette City Council’s recent approval of $5 million in local funding to remove obstructions from the Vermilion River.
