LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has pushed several measures in recent weeks to protect U.S. interests and hold China accountable for its deception on the origin and spread of coronavirus.

This includes:

  • On March 13, Congressman Higgins cosigned a letter to House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, requesting a hearing on the threat China poses to domestic supplies of life-saving medicines and medical devices. Read that letter here.
  • On April 2, Congressman Higgins cosigned a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo requesting information about how the United States is responding to China’s propaganda campaign on coronavirus. Read that letter here.
  • On April 23, Congressman Higgins cosponsored H.R. 6614, the Taxpayers and Savers Protection (TSP) Act, which prohibits sums in the Thrift Savings Fund from being invested in Chinese or other foreign exchanges. Read that bill here.
  • On April 24, Congressman Higgins cosigned a letter to President Trump requesting urgent relief to protect America’s food supply and support domestic farmers and ranchers. Read that letter here.
  • Congressman Higgins cosponsored H. Con. Res. 97, which establishes a Joint Select Committee to investigate China’s deception on the origins of coronavirus, efforts to cover up its spread, and attempts to maliciously influence the World Health Organization (WHO). Read that legislation here.
  • Congressman Higgins cosponsored H.R. 6598, the Secure Our Systems Against China’s Tactics (SOS ACT), which protects our national security from the Chinese Communist Party’s predatory economic tactics. Read that bill here.

Further, China poses an ongoing threat to American interests and supply chains. We should make every effort to return manufacturing and critical industries to the United States.”
