Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released a draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Driftwood LNG Project today. Driftwood has requested to construct and operate liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities and natural gas transmission pipeline facilities in Acadia, Calcasieu, Evangeline, and Jefferson Davis parishes. The project would provide gas and processing to produce up to 27.6 million tons of LNG for export each year.
“FERC’s release of the environmental impact study is tremendous news for Driftwood LNG and Louisiana, allowing the project to stay on schedule and move forward in the permitting process. LNG projects like Driftwood represent thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic development potential for South Louisiana. Further, LNG… a clean fossil-fuel… will help make America energy dominant. Under President Trump’s leadership, FERC has demonstrated that it is determined to work past the bureaucratic barriers that have delayed project approvals. My office will continue to work with the Executive Branch to prioritize new energy investments.”
Last year, Congressman Higgins introduced H.R. 3367, the LNG Now Act, which expedites permit approvals for LNG exports at the Department of Energy.
