Higgins, Delegation Urge FERC to Approve Driftwood LNG Permits

Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) and other members of the Louisiana congressional delegation sent a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Kevin McIntyre, urging FERC to approve necessary permits for the Driftwood LNG and Driftwood Pipeline projects in Southwest Louisiana.

Signing the letter to Chairman McIntyre are U.S. Sens. Bill Cassidy, M.D., (R-LA) and John Kennedy (R-LA), and U.S. Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA), Clay Higgins (R-LA), Mike Johnson (R-LA), Ralph Abraham, M.D., (R-LA), and Garret Graves (R-LA).

The projects are slated for construction to begin in 2019, with the first LNG liquefaction facility starting operation in 2023 and reaching fully-operational status by 2025.

The letter notes that the two projects enjoy widespread community support and have a combined investment impact of $16.5 billion. The construction phase of the Driftwood Terminal and associated pipeline would create approximately 6,400 direct jobs.

Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:

“There are $120 billion worth of private investment projects like Driftwood in Southwest Louisiana. These projects represent thousands of highly-skilled and good-paying jobs. We are pushing to expedite the federal permitting process and cut red tape to ensure that these projects reach completion. Federal bureaucracy should not unnecessarily delay American economic development. We’re going to bring pressure at every opportunity. The status quo of permitting in America does not work.”
