WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted to pass H.R. 22, Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act, which would prohibit the Secretary of Energy from sending petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to China or any entity that intends to export it to China.

“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a critical national security asset. Last year, the Biden administration took it upon themselves to deplete these reserves to the lowest levels since the 1980s to cover up the disastrous effects of their anti-American energy agenda. Even worse, they sold several million barrels to China, enabling the CCP to boost their domestic revenues. This is completely unacceptable. We must restore American energy independence.”

Congressman Higgins was an original co-sponsor of H.R. 22 Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act.
