WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has introduced H.R. 8733, to help prioritize U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects following a major disaster declaration.

The bill would amend the Water Resources Development Act of 2020 and the definition of an “economically disadvantaged community” to include areas affected by a major declared disaster within the last five years.

The text of the bill is available here.

Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:

“The definition of an ‘economically disadvantaged community’ should absolutely include those areas recently hit by a major disaster. Our bill makes that inclusion and prioritizes funding for Army Corps projects within a disaster zone. Clearing and restoring our waterways is a necessity after a major storm. We saw that firsthand in Southwest Louisiana after Hurricanes Laura and Delta. Our legislation will streamline funding for water management projects and help our communities recover after a major disaster.”
