WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) was recognized by the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) for having one of the strongest voting records for supporting limited government, economic freedom, and lower taxes during the 2020 Congressional session.
This year, Congressman Higgins is one of only 33 House members to have earned the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award.” NTU’s rating program is designed to calculate a Member’s voting record on fiscal responsibility by evaluating every vote that has an impact on tax, spending, trade, and regulatory policy utilizing a methodical weighting system. More information on the report is available here.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“I’m honored to receive the NTU’s Taxpayers’ Friend Award. It is more important than ever that we fight to restore fiscal responsibility and maintain America’s economic competitiveness. Our national debt is unsustainable. Our grandchildren deserve to inherit a financially sound America, just as my generation did. Our Republic is threatened by insane spending. Some of us are willing to fight against the leviathan that would devour us.”
NTU President Pete Sepp commented:
“The pandemic created unprecedented challenges for our nation — and for taxpayers. Despite these difficult circumstances, taxpayers should know that Congressman Higgins continued to support fiscal discipline and responsible governance. Now more than ever, we need leaders like Congressman Higgins to get our nation’s finances back in order and help restore our prosperity. National Taxpayers Union thanks Congressman Higgins for his efforts on behalf of the people who pay government’s bills.”
