WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) sent a letter to President Donald Trump, again requesting royalty relief for offshore energy production in the Gulf of Mexico.
The letter reads, in part, “America’s energy industry is facing a generational crisis. International markets and oil values have been heavily impacted as a result of the Saudi-Russia oil dumping war and COVID-19 travel restrictions. One option to negate some of the damage to the industry would be to institute a temporary decrease or elimination of federal oil and gas royalties until markets have stabilized.”

Congressman Higgins joined other Gulf Coast lawmakers calling for royalty relief in a March 20 letter to Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. In recent weeks, Congressman Higgins has pushed a number of state and federal actions that are necessary to protect oil and gas jobs. Read more about those efforts here.
