WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement on the signing of the United States and China Phase One trade pact. The agreement increases access to markets, benefits American farmers, and strengthens intellectual property rights, protections, and enforcement mechanisms.
“President Trump has taken historic action to address unfair Chinese trading practices and level the playing field for American industry. The Phase One agreement is just the beginning. It makes significant gains for intellectual property protections and strengthens enforcement mechanisms. Additionally, China has agreed to make sizable purchases of U.S. manufacturing goods, agricultural products, and energy commodities. This is a major win for Louisiana farmers and businesses. While we have further work remaining, the Phase One deal is proof that President Trump’s strong stance with China is producing results.”
