WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) and Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) commended the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) after they announced final approval for Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG export terminal, authorizing the facility to export up to 1.7 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas as LNG.
This announcement comes just two weeks after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) cleared the Calcasieu Pass LNG project for construction. The project is expected to create 1,500 construction jobs and 130 permanent jobs in Cameron Parish.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“I’m glad to see DOE quickly approve export permits for the Calcasieu Pass LNG project. Southwest Louisiana is the epicenter of the LNG boom, and projects like this are driving American energy security. This project and others in the region represent thousands of new jobs and billions in economic development potential. My office will continue working closely with FERC and DOE officials to expedite permit approvals and move these projects toward completion.”
Republican Whip Steve Scalise issued the following statement:
“I commend Secretary Rick Perry and the Trump Administration for their decision today to allow LNG exports from the Calcasieu Pass project in Louisiana. Backed by the strong leadership of Congressman Higgins, this decision will strengthen Louisiana’s economy, create new jobs, and improve on our goal of American energy dominance by allowing us to supply our allies around the world with a stable source of energy.”
