Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the Chennault International Airport will receive more than $4.7 million in funding to rehabilitate and reconstruct the runway.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the funds, which total $4,737,695. The project will reconstruct 10,702 feet of specialized pavement on Runway 15/33.
“The Chennault International Airport is one of the nation’s premier industrial airports. It serves as a major economic engine for our region,” said Congressman Higgins. “Paired with local rail, the I-10 corridor, and the Port of Lake Charles, Chennault is yet another tool for industry in South Louisiana to export products throughout the world.”
About $232 million in economic activity takes place annually at Chennault, and more than 1,400 people work at the companies based on site.
