Benefits for Families of Deceased Law Enforcement Officers

The Thin Blue Line in Louisiana takes care of its own. If a member of your family was killed in the line of duty as a law enforcement officer, your family may be eligible for benefits from the state of Louisiana. 

Death Benefits: In Louisiana, there is a one-time death benefit of $250,000 to be paid to the surviving spouse or children of a deceased law enforcement officer. 

Education Benefits: The state of Louisiana provides free tuition at state-supported schools for a law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty. 

Health Insurance Benefits: The state of Louisiana offers health insurance coverage for the law enforcement officer’s surviving spouse for two years following their death. 

Funeral Benefits: Under Worker’s Compensation, a maximum burial allowance of $8,500 is allowed.
