WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) delivered a letter this week to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell requesting her assistance to expedite outstanding Public Assistance applications in response to Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
The letter follows an exchange in a House Oversight Committee hearing where Congressman Higgins secured a commitment from Administrator Criswell to personally review Southwest Louisiana’s outstanding applications for Public Assistance. Read more on the hearing here.
“As discussed, I have concerns over the progress made on Public Assistance applications from Hurricane Laura (DR-4559) and Hurricane Delta (DR-4570),” Congressman Higgins wrote in the letter. “Southwest Louisiana is appreciative of the $1.6 billion that FEMA and other agencies have delivered to help with immediate response costs. However, this is insufficient for what is needed for long-term recovery.”
The letter includes a list of pending Public Assistance applications, including those from the Calcasieu Parish School Board, Cameron Parish, Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury, City of Jennings, Port of Lake Charles, West Calcasieu Port, Lake Charles Regional Airport, and Chennault International Airport.
