WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) and members of the Louisiana congressional delegation sent a letter to President Trump today requesting a larger share of federal funding to help Louisiana participate in FEMA’s disaster recovery programs.
The letter reads, in part, “Current estimates on the cost of the damage from Hurricane Laura range from $8 billion to $12 billion and will undoubtedly continue to grow over the next several years. Further complicating the rebuilding efforts is Hurricane Delta, which is projected to follow a similar path to Hurricane Laura. Hurricane Delta is the sixth tropical storm to affect Louisiana this year and threatens to bring additional turmoil to an already devastated region.”

“COVID-19 lockdowns, an active storm season, and total devastation from Hurricane Laura have exhausted the State’s financial resources. With the impending threat of Hurricane Delta, those resources will be stretched even further. An increased federal funding portion is greatly needed to help our cities and parishes cover the costs of debris removal, infrastructure repairs, and emergency protective measures.”
