WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement after the White House budget office issued a formal request to Congress for supplemental disaster relief in response to Hurricanes Laura and Delta as well as other natural disasters over the last 18 months.
Congressman Higgins has repeatedly called on the Biden administration to issue a formal request for supplemental disaster relief. A timeline of these communications and other hurricane recovery efforts is available here.
The White House’s request includes $2.3 billion for the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Program, $275 million for the Emergency Watershed Protection Program, $9 billion for the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program, $100 million for Reclamation Projects to Address Western Drought, and $2.6 billion for Federal Highway Emergency Relief.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“I’m uplifted to see the White House recognize Southwest Louisiana’s long-term recovery needs through a formal request for supplemental disaster relief. We have worked for many months to highlight Louisiana’s recovery needs, and this is a major step toward delivering much-needed grant funding in response to Hurricanes Laura and Delta. This is in addition to the over $1.4 billion that has already been delivered for immediate response costs. Congress can now move forward on a supplemental package, and additional relief and access to direct grants for Louisiana will soon be on the way.”
