WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) led an official letter demanding the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) address reports of abusive and inhumane treatment toward prisoners held on charges related to January 6.
Also signing the letter were Representatives Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Andrew Clyde (R-GA), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Andy Harris (R-MD), Jody Hice (R-GA), Mary Miller (R-IL), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Scott Perry (R-PA), and Randy Weber (R-TX).
“Regardless of the charges faced, every incarcerated human being is to be treated humanely and with due consideration of their rights. Evidence of 8th Amendment violations and denial of basic medical needs has been brought to the attention of Congress. We, the undersigned, are officially advising you, Director Carvajal, that you are to immediately address the abhorrent persecution of American citizens being held in pre-trial detention under your watch,” wrote the lawmakers. “We demand that you use your authority to investigate this abuse, or we will use our authority to investigate your failure.”
“Representative Greene has done impressive investigative work here. She kicked this door like a solid Constitutionalist Patriot. The DC establishment persecution of J6 pre-trial detainees is disgusting, and we will not tolerate it. BOP officials and DC corrections officers could very well face criminal charges. Further, we will continue our investigation into the insidious conspiracies of the left and the deep-state that set the stage for J6. The big picture is that Representative Greene and I stand together with our Republican colleagues in the House Freedom Caucus in the war to preserve our Republic. The oppression Americans have confronted will end with the boot of freedom on the neck of injustice. So help me God,” said Congressman Higgins.
“The treatment and conditions in the wing of the DC Gulag holding January 6 pre-trial detainees is atrocious and appalling. And the Federal Bureau of Prisons is in charge. Officials will be held accountable for the two-tiered justice system unfolding in America. That’s a promise,” said Congresswoman Greene.
