WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that FEMA is awarding an additional $12,830,786.96 for hurricane recovery and disaster response efforts in South Louisiana.
The grants include:
- $8,505,559.34 to Cameron Parish for debris removal operations in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 100% federal cost-share.
- $2,829,193.39 to Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corp. (SLEMCO) for debris removal operations in response to Hurricane Delta. The reimbursement is made at a 75% federal cost-share.
- $1,496,034.23 to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety (State Police) for emergency protective measures in response to the Severe Winter Storm. The reimbursement is made at a 75% federal cost-share.
All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.
On September 17, 2021, Congressman Higgins pressed FEMA to expedite the review and approval of Cameron Parish’s Public Assistance (PA) applications as well as address lingering issues with site inspections. That letter is available here.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“We continue to push FEMA for a more efficient review and approval process for public assistance reimbursements. Getting these resources to state and local entities promptly is critical to the overall recovery effort. Streamlining access to existing resources should be FEMA’s primary objective for victims of the 2020 hurricane season.”
