Higgins Announces $10M for University Corridor Project
LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) will receive a $10 million BUILD grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the University Avenue Corridor Project.
The funding will help construct two components of the University Avenue Corridor Project. The first component will convert the five-lane University Avenue from Walker Road to Wilshire Lane to a four-lane road with a raised median and constructs a multi-lane roundabout at the Willow Street intersection. The second component will improve and expand the Wilshire Lane to Hollywood Drive section, including a multi-lane roundabout and improvements at Alcide Dominique Drive. The project also includes a pedestrian zone with sidewalks and landscaping.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“We first met with LCG leadership regarding the University Gateway plan in 2017. A tremendous amount of planning has gone into this. Excellent work. A lot of moving parts. The University Avenue corridor is an important gateway for Lafayette. Upgrading the existing infrastructure will help revitalize the area and drive economic development efforts. This project has been a top priority for Lafayette leaders, and our office has worked closely with them to advance this project at the federal level.”
