WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to continue funding the federal government, maintain critical military operations and provide a long-term reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement:

“This vote was about taking the responsible action to continue funding the government, including critical support for our armed forces and a long-term reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). It’s disheartening to me that Democrats would overwhelmingly vote to shut down the government, prioritizing illegal immigrants over American children and the safety of our nation.”

NOTE: House Republicans passed a 5-year, standalone reauthorization of CHIP and community health center funding on November 3, 2017 by a 242-174 vote. Senate Democrats have blocked this legislation in the Senate, and 171 House Democrats voted against CHIP reauthorization.
