WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted to pass H.R. 27, the HALT Fentanyl Act, which would permanently classify fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs.

Congressman Higgins is an original co-sponsor of the bill, which ensures law enforcement officers have the necessary tools to keep these illicit and lethal drugs off the streets. The bill also allows practitioners to continue research to better understand the overall effect of fentanyl analogues on people’s health.

“Fentanyl poisoning is now the number one cause of death among adults aged 18-49. The cartels have flooded America with this Chinese poison. Over 200 thousand young Americans have died from illicit fentanyl, and our message to the animals selling this deadly drug is clear… we are coming for you,” said Congressman Higgins.
