Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has been named Vice Chairman of the House Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Oversight. He will serve alongside Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., (R-LA) who has been named Chairman of the Subcommittee.
The Oversight Subcommittee has investigatory jurisdiction over a wide purview of topics such as energy research and development, environmental regulations, cybersecurity risks, and space research and development.
Congressman Higgins has been a leading voice on the Oversight Subcommittee throughout the Kaspersky Lab investigation, which prompted action by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to ban the Russian-produced software from all federal agencies. Early in the investigation, Congressman Higgins warned officials from DHS about potential security flaws that originate within the software’s code.
Congressman Higgins:
“I am both humbled and honored to be named Vice Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee by my colleagues. This subcommittee’s investigatory powers have played a large role in efforts to secure our cyber networks, expose regulatory overreach at the EPA, and ensure proper governance from other alphabet agencies of the federal government. I look forward to working with Chairman Smith and Chairman Abraham on endeavors to help the Americans we all serve.”
House Science, Space, & Technology Chairman Lamar Smith:
“Since joining the Science Committee, Rep. Higgins has become an integral member of our Oversight Subcommittee. As a veteran and a decorated law enforcement officer, Rep. Higgins has the experience to serve the subcommittee well as vice chairman. I look forward to working with him in his new capacity.”
Dr. Abraham:
“I’m very excited that my fellow Louisianian Congressman Clay Higgins has agreed to be the Vice Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee. With Clay’s expertise in homeland security and law enforcement, I know that we as a team will bring to bear the accountability that the American people expect from their lawmakers.”
