Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted against liberal Democrats’ wasteful spending plan that expands abortion services, sends more taxpayer dollars overseas, and fails to secure America’s southern border.
House Democrats have refused to negotiate in good faith during talks to end the partial government shutdown:
- In yesterday’s White House meeting, Democrats refused to even listen to a briefing from the Secretary of Homeland Security on border threats.
- House Democrats are selling this bill as something that already passed the Senate. In reality, they made changes that repeal pro-life victories of the Trump administration, send an additional $12 billion overseas for foreign programs, and strip other conservative priorities.
- Madame Pelosi is willing to increase funding for foreign programs but is not willing to invest the necessary funds for border security to protect America.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“Democrats are not serious about negotiating an end to the government shutdown. This spending bill was not a legitimate effort to reopen the government. House Democrats stripped border security funding and added liberal measures to expand taxpayer-funded abortions and increase foreign giveaways. They continue to posture while the government shutdown persists and the situation on our southern border worsens. Democrats have again chosen open borders rather than open government.
“It’s time to secure our border and end the government shutdown. Democrats should come to the table and work with President Trump to reach a deal.”
