WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement on President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency in accordance with the National Emergencies Act.
“Congress failed in its duty to provide the necessary funding for border security. The conference agreement ignored direct requests from border agents and law enforcement professionals. We must address the national security and humanitarian crisis on our southern border. The massive flow of illegal immigrants, dangerous narcotics, and gang activity are tearing at the fabric of our nation.
“President Trump is well within his legal rights as Commander-in-Chief. He has an obligation to secure our homeland and prioritize the safety of American citizens. The President is doing what is necessary to secure our border, and I support his decision.”
