Washington, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA), a returning member of the Homeland Security Committee, has been named Chairman of the Subcommittee on Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement.
The Subcommittee is responsible for all aspects of security operations along land, air, and maritime borders. Its jurisdiction includes three of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) seven operational components: U.S. Customs & Border Protection, Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services. The Subcommittee will be the driving force in the debate on how to best address this country’s lack of border security and provide our frontline defenders with the necessary tools to carry out their mission of protecting this great nation.
Congressman Higgins has been a leading voice for enhanced border security and efforts to combat illegal immigration. He has personally scouted the entire border and spoken with border agents in each command sector. He continues to sponsor and co-sponsor various border security legislation to ensure this nation’s safety.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“America faces serious threat. This administration has lost operational control of our southern border, the cartels quickly outmaneuvered Mayorkas, millions of illegals have crossed into our country, fentanyl is flooding across our border, violent crime has spread into every community, we lose billions every year because of a weak cybersecurity infrastructure, and for two years the Biden DHS policies have escaped accountability due to a lack of oversight from the previous Democrat-led House. Under the Republican majority, we will work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the United States. I look forward to working with Chairman Green and my Republican colleagues. Drug traffickers and criminals who enslave vulnerable human beings celebrated when Biden was inaugurated, but the party’s over for the cartels. Biden and Mayorkas will be held accountable for their treasonous open border policies.”
