WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced the approval of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding for six additional projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District, totaling $67,431,429.58. The reimbursements to local government and non-profit entities add to the over $5 billion in previously announced recovery funds and cover damages incurred due to the impact of Hurricanes Laura, Ida, and Francine.
Rep. Higgins said, “Even during a Democrat-forced shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, President Trump and Secretary Noem’s FEMA is providing disaster relief funding for Louisianans. My office will continue to work with our federal partners to ensure necessary resources continue to be delivered.”
Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes. Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders. All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.
Below is a list of projects in Louisiana’s Third Congressional District for which FEMA grants were recently approved.
- $8,973,728.90 for McNeese University to replace and renovate buildings damaged by Hurricane Laura.
- $6,754,463.59 for the Port of Lake Charles for permanent repairs to the Bulk Terminal Ship Unloader #1 American project.
- $1,156,451.60 for Terrebonne Parish for permanent repairs to the Houma Power Plant.
- $10,493,107.20 for the Terrebonne Parish School Board for damages inflicted by Hurricane Ida.
- $30,937,726.04 for Terrebonne Parish to reimburse emergency protective measures taken during Hurricane Ida.
- $9,115,952.25 for the Terrebonne Parish Levee System to repair the Isle de Jean Charles Levee after damages sustained as a result of Hurricane Francine.
