WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that FEMA is awarding an additional $32,204,013.10 million in federal grants for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana. The funding is made available through the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura (DR-4559-LA), which Congressman Higgins supported.

The funding includes:

  • $ 3,579,440.76 to the Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lake Charles for repairs to the St. Louis High School old gym. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $ 21,022,560.60 to the Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lake Charles for repairs to the St. Louis High School main building. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $ 7,602,011.74 to the Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lake Charles for repairs to the St. Louis High School campus. The reimbursement is made at 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.

Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes. Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders. All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.

A more extensive timeline of Congressman Higgins’ actions on hurricane recovery is available here.

Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:

“The funding for St. Louis Catholic High School and the Diocese of Lake Charles is welcome news. My office worked closely with Diocese leaders to push their applications through the FEMA funding process. During this time, our spirits were high, and our determination remained steadfast. To date, our office has delivered over $4.3 billion in recovery relief, and we will continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to deliver the needed resources for recovery relief.”
