WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted to pass H.R. 1, which unleashes American energy independence by boosting the production and processing of critical minerals to help drive down costs for Americans.

“Biden’s anti-American energy agenda is hurting every aspect of the average American life,”said Congressman Higgins. “Southwest Louisiana is the epicenter of America’s LNG industry and remains a major contributor to our state and national economy. By enacting policies that increase domestic production, we lower costs for American families, provide economic prosperity, and protect our national security.”

Background:

  • This legislation repeals the Biden administration’s $6B natural gas tax, reverses the harmful royalty rate hike on offshore energy production, and streamlines the approval of new energy infrastructure and development.
  • It addresses much needed reforms to revenue sharing provisions for offshore energy production and ensures that Louisiana receives its fair share of revenues from production in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Expands the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) provisions to include offshore wind energy production. These revenues would provide critical investments for coastal restoration efforts in Louisiana.
