WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that FEMA is awarding an additional $23,534,295.39 in Public Assistance reimbursements for hurricane recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana.

The funding is made available through the major disaster declaration for Hurricane Laura (DR-4559-LA), which Congressman Higgins supported.

The reimbursements include:

  • $14,539,166.69 to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for debris removal operations in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 100% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 428 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $2,384,760.60 to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for debris removal operations in response to Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 428 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
  • $6,610,368.10 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for permanent repairs to the FK White Middle School campus following Hurricane Laura. The reimbursement is made at a 90% federal cost-share and authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.

Much of our official Congressional work to advance recovery projects occurs behind the scenes. Funding finalization and the associated formal announcement of funding are the result of constant efforts over many months with FEMA and state and local stakeholders. All funding will be delivered to the State of Louisiana. The state is responsible for disbursing the funds to each sub-recipient.

A more extensive timeline of Congressman Higgins’ actions on hurricane recovery is available here.

Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:

“We continue to work with our local, state, and federal partners to deliver recovery resources. We have delivered over $3.8 billion in response to Hurricanes Laura and Delta. My office will continue fighting for Southwest Louisiana. Our district staff, including Elizabeth McLaughlin, has performed heroic work over the past year, meeting with FEMA representatives, constituent groups, and local government stakeholders. Our entire team is dedicated to the recovery mission.”
