LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is purchasing up to $25 million of wild-caught Gulf shrimp through the Section 32 program for inclusion in its food nutrition assistance programs.

“Since coming to Congress, my office has pushed for greater inclusion of Gulf seafood in USDA’s food and nutrition programs,” said Congressman Higgins. “This purchase is a significant win for Louisiana shrimpers who have been greatly injured by inflation, foreign seafood dumping, and other market disruptions. I stand with Louisiana’s seafood producers. We are pursuing solutions that will help protect Gulf seafood and prioritize Louisiana fishermen.”

Congressman Higgins has also introduced legislation to combat foreign seafood dumping and protect American producers. More information on his bill is available here.
