WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA), the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Border Subcommittee, issued the following statement in response to reports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plans to discipline mounted Border Patrol agents who were falsely accused of “whipping” migrants at the U.S. – Mexico border in September 2021.

“Mayorkas and Biden have been sitting on the 500-page investigative case file for months. We have demanded its release and received no response. Now, they’re publicly shaming these frontline officers, and once again, Mayorkas has targeted our own CBP. I’m going to read the entire case file when it’s finally released, but at this point, it seems clear that the Biden administration’s decision is 100% based on radical left-wing politics and not the facts of this case. It’s shameful. They are ruining these agents’ careers over a false media narrative, and it is a further attack against law enforcement at the southern border. Crime is out of control, border getaways are surging, and the number of illegal crossings is only getting higher each month. Yet, Secretary Mayorkas and Joe Biden would rather appease their radical base than take necessary action to secure the border.”
