WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 7910 and H.R. 2377, two overreaching Democrat bills that attack the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding American citizens.
“Enacting unconstitutional gun control measures and further eroding the rights of American citizens is not the answer. Neither of these liberal bills will stop criminals from acquiring firearms or carrying out acts of evil. This is why I have reintroduced legislation to help secure our schools without restricting any American’s Constitutional freedoms. I will not back down from defending the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms.”
Yesterday, Congressman Higgins spoke against further restrictions on the Second Amendment during a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing. Congressman Higgins’ opening statement is available here, and his exchange with the witnesses is available here.
Last month, Congressman Higgins reintroduced the School Resource Officer Assessment Act and the School Watch and Tactics (SWAT) Act, which would strengthen school safety standards and help protect students and teachers. More information on these bills is available here.
