LAFAYETTE, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) delivered a letter today to mayors, parish presidents, and police juries across Louisiana’s 3rd District informing of federal grant opportunities to help with disaster mitigation and community resiliency.
The letter follows FEMA’s announcement of $1.16 billion for the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) and the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant programs.
“Though these resources have been made available, it is incumbent upon state and local officials to apply for these grants,” wrote Congressman Higgins. “If you have not already, I urge you to pursue these resources aggressively.”
“We stand ready to assist you in pushing through any grant, reimbursement, or funding application that is pending at the federal level,” Congressman Higgins continued. “Since January 2017, my office has directly, officially supported many hundreds of federal funding applications.”
In a separate letter this week, Congressman Higgins again asked President Biden to issue a formal request for supplemental disaster assistance and called on the administration to prioritize grant applications for areas affected by Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
“My office is proactively notifying afflicted parishes and local governments of mitigation grant program opportunities to strengthen and increase the resiliency of disaster-prone communities,” Congressman Higgins wrote to President Biden. “Areas affected by Hurricanes Laura and Delta that apply for these funding opportunities should be prioritized by your administration for expedited review and approval.”
