WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the House-passed surface transportation bill includes his member-designated project funding requests for the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge and the I-49 Lafayette Connector.
Under the current legislative text, each project would receive $10 million. This would be the first direct federal funding for either project.

Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“While I have significant concerns about the overall content and Green New Deal mandates in this bill, the inclusion of $20 million for the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge and the I-49 Lafayette Connector is a win. These initial federal funds will help move both projects toward construction and would be the first direct federal investment in either project. My office will continue to prioritize South Louisiana’s infrastructure and economic development needs, using every available legislative tool. We’re working to move these projects forward while also standing for our core principles.”
