WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) voted today to pass S. 2216, the TEAM Veteran Caregivers Act, which formally recognizes approved caregivers of Veterans on electronic health records and authorizes the VA to temporarily extend benefits under the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers.
In 2017, Congressman Higgins introduced similar legislation calling on the VA to audit its caregiver programs and implement necessary reforms. More information on that bill can be found here.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“Since coming to Congress, my office has worked to improve caregiver programs within the VA and VHA. Family caregivers provide critical support for our disabled Veterans. VA programs should fully support Veterans in need of constant care. I’m encouraged to see these VA reforms passed and heading to President Trump’s desk. One battle at a time, one issue at a time, regardless of anything else that might be happening in America, we must never lose focus on the debt owed to our Veterans.”
