WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld exemptions to the Affordable Care Act’s requirement for employers to provide insurance coverage that includes contraception. The court ruled 7-2 in favor of the Trump administration and the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic charity.

“First Amendment protections and religious liberty prevailed in today’s ruling. No American should be forced to choose between sacrificing their religious beliefs and complying with a government mandate. This ruling affirms that sentiment and allows Little Sisters of the Poor to continue their mission in a manner reflective of their Christian faith and conscience.”
