WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement after voting against two minibus packages totaling over $1.4 trillion in spending.
“While I support many elements within these Appropriations Bills, their totality forces a level of deficit spending that I cannot support. American generations yet unborn are being forced to inherit another trillion dollars added to our national debt. American families must balance budgets and control spending, thus, in service of those American families, Congress should minimize or eliminate annual deficit spending and begin to address the national debt. Further, the use of minibus and omnibus spending packages is reflective of a broken, unrighteous budget process. Bundling incredibly disparate bills together forces representatives to violate core principles and ideological beliefs. We have 12 Appropriations Bills, so Congress should have 12 Appropriations votes.”
