Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that Lafayette Consolidated Government will receive $1,250,000 in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The hazard mitigation grant will finance the acquisition of eight residential properties that have suffered repetitive flood losses. This is part of flood mitigation efforts designed to prevent future losses and save taxpayer money.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“Flood mitigation and maintenance of our water management systems are top priorities for our office. We’ve secured record funding for dredging projects, and we continue to work with local leaders to address regional drainage concerns and advance flood prevention projects. Mitigation efforts like this can save taxpayers billions in American treasure and protect our communities against potential flood threats.”
