Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the Lafayette Regional Airport will receive $10 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant will be used to finance construction of the new airport terminal.
“This is great news for Lafayette Parish and all of Acadiana. Lafayette Regional is a major commercial hub, and this new terminal will provide our region with greatly enhanced efficiency and capacity for travelers, a significant help for Acadiana tourism, and a much-needed economic boost,” said Congressman Higgins. “Federal funding has been delayed for several years due to bureaucratic obstacles, but we have broken down those barriers. Lafayette Regional will finally have the resources needed to start construction and deliver a big win for Acadiana.”
“We appreciate the support of our congressional delegation in helping us secure this grant to be used for the new terminal building,” said Steven Picou, Executive Director of the Lafayette Regional Airport. “It is an ambitious project, and we are seeking financial support from state and federal government to supplement our own funding to make the terminal a reality.”
