WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) issued the following statement after President Trump signed the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblowers Protection Act of 2017 into law.
“I’m glad to see President Trump sign this landmark piece of legislation into law. There have been too many instances of veterans at the VA dying while they waited for care. I am a loud and vocal supporter of bringing much-needed change to the VA, which is why I co-sponsored the House version of this legislation, and why I continue to work with my colleagues on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee to fight on behalf of my veteran brothers and sisters. American veterans deserve the finest care in the world, and our mission is to ensure that they have access to high-quality, timely care. This law allows Secretary Shulkin to change the status quo and hold bad actors at the VA responsible for misconduct on the taxpayer’s dime. Our mission is to raise accountability and hold VA employees to a higher standard.”
