IOTA, LA (KPLC) –

Congressman Clay Higgins hosted a town hall meeting in Iota on Monday night.

He’s on a nine-day, nine-parish tour to meet with constituents throughout the 3rd Congressional District.

The newly elected Higgins, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), told the crowd that he’s working 16-18 hour days – and sometimes, he sleeps on an air mattress in his Washington D.C. office.

Higgins took questions and discussed issues facing Southwest Louisiana.

The man known as “the Cajun John Wayne” said a solid life for every American family begins with a steady paycheck that folks can count on – and jobs and the economy are his focus on Capitol Hill.

“I’m working for any potential way to work closely with my colleagues and working with an involved and optimistic President Trump to grow the economy not just in south Louisiana but across the country,” he said.

Higgins said enforcing rice trade agreements with Iraq and opening agriculture trade with Cuba will help grow the economy in Southwest Louisiana.
