NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – Concerns, questions, and opinions were all stated Thursday night as Congressman Clay Higgins held and event to have an open conversation with the public.
Some residents came to show their support while others had some questions they wanted to be answered.
“This was every American’s right,” said Higgins, “Everyone here had a right to disagree with me completely or to agree with me completely or anywhere in between. But it’s my duty, I’m honored bound, I’m constitutionally bound to unveil myself to the citizens that I serve.”
After the outbursts that took place during Senator Cassidy’s tour, Kathryn Delcarpio thought her concerns wouldn’t be addressed when Congressman Higgins came into town.
“I had a very bad feeling about coming here,” she said.
But, by the end of the night, she felt confident about the answers she received.
“I feel that he wanted to hear us,” she said, “That he wanted to listen to what we had to say. That he honestly sought those things.”
Higgins believes if more events like this took place, everyone can eventually come together as one.
“If we could do this, to have loving, respectful, sometimes heated but peaceful, vigorous debate about the important challenges that face our country, then maybe we can fix this thing.”
His next event will be held in Iota at 6pm on Monday.
