WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has allocated an additional $3.4M to address ongoing housing needs in South Louisiana through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) programs.
The City of Lake Charles will receive $660,115 through CDBG and $459,829 through HOME. The City of Lafayette will receive $1,625,383 through CDBG and $714,806 through HOME.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development created the CDBG and HOME programs to create affordable housing. The Community Development Block Grant supports building stronger and more resilient communities by providing decent housing and expanding economic opportunities. The HOME Investment Partnership program was designed to create affordable housing for low-income households.
In addition to this newly announced funding, after recent natural disasters, Congress authorized the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program, which was created within HUD. Congressman Higgins supported the creation of this program. This newly announced funding through HUD, combined with the financing of CDBG-DR, will enhance longer-term disaster recovery efforts in Southwest Louisiana.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“The announcement of an additional $3.4 million in block grant money is welcome news. This grant allocation will not only help to address the ongoing housing needs and economic development in South Louisiana, but it will also provide much-needed relief after Hurricanes Laura and Delta. We will not stop working for the people of Southwest Louisiana.”
