WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of his work on the Task Force on Denying Terrorists Entry into the United States, Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) has introduced H.R. 4564, the Post-Caliphate Threat Assessment Act of 2017, which would help with identification and response to regions displaying a high level of terrorist activity.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, today in a 231-198 vote. The bill allows qualified, law-abiding individuals to carry a concealed handgun outside their state of residence.

Today, Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced that David Calais and Deonta Trim of Carencro High School, Jeremiah Willis of Acadiana High School, and Marjorie Hooper of David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy won first place in the Congressional App Challenge. The team’s app titled “Rescue Me” helps connect volunteers with victims in the wake of a natural disaster.

Bill gains full, bipartisan support from committee members
Members of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, led by Chairman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) and Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN), introduced a bipartisan bill to streamline VA’s community care accounts into one veteran-centric program that replaces the Choice Program, removing the current 30-day, 40-mile requirement to give veterans more timely access to community care.
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3922, the Championing Healthy Kids Act, which extends funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for five years. The bill also extends funding for Federally Qualified Health Centers and other public health programs for two years.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Wednesday that it would not finalize a rule that would have jeopardized delivery of home health services nationwide.
The House Ways & Means Committee released the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act today, which implements major reforms to the U.S. tax code. The plan lowers rates on the middle-class, consolidates individual tax brackets, offers a larger standard deduction, and lowers corporate tax rates.
