Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) co-sponsored a zero-for-zero resolution, which would zero out foreign sugar subsidies and help protect U.S. and Louisiana sugar growers from marketplace distortions.

The resolution promotes a sound sugar policy protecting domestic producers against foreign abuses and ensuring that future agriculture trade deals are fair and free.

Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:

“We will continue to fight for America and Louisiana’s sugar producers. This is one of our most important agricultural commodities, and the industry produces $20 billion of domestic economic activity annually. Unchecked sugar subsidies in foreign countries threaten American industry and distort the global market. Our resolution advances policy to protect American sugar farmers and create a level playing field.”
